Hi Devanny,
Yes, it can be distracting (especially when the tune has a lot of difficulties), i agree, but i prefer myself to have them on the performance video because it helps when i play alone with the backing track.
I have rhythmic issues and i’m not fully autonomous : so when i play with the backtrack, it can be helpful for me to go…[Read more]

Hi Casey,
I’ve been thinking a lot but i can’t choose between the 3 i’d like to see published first so i put them and no matter the one, i’ll be very pleased ! :
– Jig Ati-toine
– Cypress Jig

Thank you ! 🙂

Hello,
I found a very cool arrangement of Hanneke’s (most famous ?!) tune : glass case of emotion.
Caroline Dressler (solo), Giulia Haible (cello) and the Boston Pops orchestra played last month their arrangement of the tune : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GuCppLAyWE (the second tune is Kohler’s hornpipe).
They won this year the “Fidelity…[Read more]

I love it !! Wonderful duet 😉
I hope you’ll do others duets together in the future and maybe others instructors could also do
some (Kevin/Niall ; Patti/André) …?

Thanks Casey,
I don’t know if there’s any difference between chop in Irish fiddling and Scottish fiddling, but my interest is really Scottish fiddling : if Niall’s tutorial works to learn how to chop, that’s great (he’s an amazing fiddler).
If Hanneke agrees to introduce chop in her tutorials, that will be fantastic.
Thanks again,

Hello Casey,
Well, first one to post…not a surprise : when i saw your topic, i jumped on it !! 😉
I have so many things to ask to Hanneke :
– First, i’ll request a technique tutorial about CHOP : i talked about that before, i’d like to learn how to do this and have exercices. May i also suggest to Hanneke to feel free to “chop” in her…[Read more]

Hi Roland,
Thanks for your answer,
I totally get what you’re saying here : of course, fiddling music is not “frozen”. There’s no one way to do it but many and we have to explore, learn by ourselves for a big part.
However, i discovered, since i’m here on FV, that i made a lot of progress by taking the bowing and fingering of the instructors…[Read more]

Hi Casey,
Soooo, i’m not more aware of what’s going on with Hanneke’s variation because i can slow down the tune and ear/see the notes that she plays but the problem is the bowing because she’s doing a shuffle (that the “groovy kind of lick where she rocks between A and E strings whilst aiming for a G natural” that you talk about on your…[Read more]

Thanks Casey for your answer,
I don’t have camera for skype because i don’t use it : it doesn’t work where i live (my internet connection is pretty slow since i live far from town).
I’ll try to figure out with mp3 file + slowing down the video performance. I will see my violin teacher next tuesday and i’ll show him the video.
I’ll let you know…[Read more]
