Just talked with a traveling fiddler and she Ratifies that Overhead bins are fair game even for larger fiddle cases.

Hi Martha, I agree with UNCLEATED on Amelia’s Waltz. Great tune that covers the entire fingerboard in 1st position and not played much in contests that I’ve heard. Have fun its a lovely tune. Best Roland

Hi Uncleted, I agree with all of what Casey said and for us who don’t repair bows regularly there are a few other signs to look for when its worn out. As Casey said you start loosing tone and grip, even with a lot of rosin.
Also the rosin won’t stay on the bow as well when its worn out so look for a lot more rosin dust on your fiddle or even…[Read more]

Hi Serita,
I’ll be glad to pas this on to Casey and I would be surprised if this tune wasn’t on the to do list. Thanks for your suggestion and I’m sure Casey will consider this popular tune for the future, if it’s not already on the list. Thanks for the suggestion. Roland

Hi Telln,
Great to hear you were able to see Master Kevin in person. He is truly delightful & is also a master of the gift of gab. We were lucky to have him visit Bend Oregon about 10 years ago and we really enjoyed the workshop and stories. Also great to hear you’re enjoying music in your senior years, So fiddling on Sir!. I listened to this again to better hear the background music and I think its multiple tunes mash up. Definitely some familiar melodic lines but not quite identifiable. Best R

HI Z,
I watched the YouTube Post but never did hear a tune as its a Johny Walker Ad. If you mean the background music
I could not identify it. Best Roland Forum Moderator -

Nice to hear all these great comments on focused practice techniques. Thanks all for sharing in a nice convo thread and I’m sure other FV members will benefit as well.
As for my two cents when it comes to practice is to do 3 things per practice under the format:
1. Warm ups, Bow, Fingers and Ears.
2. Specific Technique or New Tune Practice.

And hey Rick G83, is the Old Joe you play a Oldtime tune in C or is it another? I love that tune that & learned it many years ago in Weiser Idaho at the National Fiddle…[Read more]

Hi JW, I will pass your suggestion on to FV webmaster Casey. I know that currently Casey has a huge backlog of new content he is editing and he is always planning on the next batch of tunes.
BTW love that tune and I have heard it played many styles from strictly a 2 part oldtime tune to a highly revised 4-5 part Texas Contest fiddle tune. It…[Read more]

Hi Olivianora,
Thanks for the tune suggestion. Blackberry Blossom is a well known Bluegrass tune here in America and I wouldn’t doubt that a earlier version first appeared in Celtic Music, although I have only heard it played Celtic style by one
Irish fiddler, Eileen Eivers who did a beautiful lilting rendition with John Waylon.Your request…[Read more]
