  • WOW, Probably the best arrangement of this tune I’ve ever hear and the swing break in the middle is awesome. Expert backup with Joey McKenzie and bass player, but I don’t know his name. I remember James Mason back when I first started playing fiddle and he was always a good player. He also took down First place in the new Swing Division at the…[Read more]

  • Hi Peter, thanks for the reply and update. Its always great to have a good practice session and you are not cheating by using a drone string to help your intonation. It forms good listening habits to hear the two strings in tune. For your more difficult double stops my basic rule is to always have at least one finger of the stopped notes already…[Read more]

  • Hi Amparo, Roland White Fiddler and Forum moderator here. Sorry I missed your recent post. I agree wholeheartedly with Casey Willis that Cassey Dreissen has gone way beyond the basic Chop that Darol Anger started with. He is by far the most inventive Chop master I’ve ever heard or seen and I don’t think he is even close to finishing inventing new…[Read more]

Hi Ron, Roland White Fiddler and Forum Moderator here,
I have used Vision strings and have had really good results from them. They are much more durable with exceptional tuning stability than the Dr Thomastik’s are. They have a full robust sound with a lot of tone color that I can’t get out of steel strings. They are also an exceptionally good…[Read more]

Hi Ron, I think the Zyex are a good modest priced Perlon string and I have searched long and hard for a long lasting A string. I’ve heard from another player that D’Addario makes a Titanium A string that is very durable and long wearing. You might try one of those with your Zyex and see if it matches up and is a good alternative string.

  • Greetings! I know of several players and students that from time to time get all twisted up trying to play their fiddles, sometimes up to the point of a actually getting an injury. Then its tough to manage your playing and performing time if you’re in pain. To avoid this situation Take time to make sure that your shoulder rest and chin rest are…[Read more]

To start the conversation I personally started with basic steel strings but over the years I liked the sound that is produced with the Perlon Strings , i.e. Dr.…[Read more]

  • Casey, You picked one of my favorite all time fiddlers. I’m so impressed with his playing and of the tunes he has made up Gardenia Waltz is one of the best. Beautiful moving double stops through the entire pieces and his playing is just exquisite in my book. Reminds me of Byron Berline and his mastery of double stops and both of them play with…[Read more]

Greetings, As a fiddler of many years I have seen that there is declining membership and support for State Fiddling Associations. Here in Oregon we have lost nearly 15% of members over the past 3-4 year. This is a general question to you forum visitors to chime in on regarding membership so let me know your thoughts. Some things to consider in…[Read more]

  • I’ve been impressed with this performer since I first heard him. He has taken the chunk to an entirely new level. Hard to comprehend the subtleties and small accents he has mastered.
Not to mention the purity of his intonation with complicated double stops.
