“Calliope house”
I can see Hanneke playing that quite beautifully. Thanks.

Are you using the medium or heavy tension? The heavy tension ones (orchestra) sound better than the medium tension ones in my opinion.

An update:
I’ve been really getting to know this fiddle. This weekend, i went to guitar center to pickup an XLR cable for my cheapy Presonus mic. Low and behold they had a sale on the “Blue Hummingbird” microphone, so I thought I’d pick one up. FYI, most of my skills have come from watching videos on this site and going to jams [mostly this site].
Here is the results:
“A Slide Set”
That’s lucy’s fling into an unknown slide. I just made it now. I think i’ll try a few reels now. Thanks Casey.

Casey, I’ve also never really had this issue. When I first started playing I used to get a callus on my first finger only but that was because of 2 things:
1) I was coming down on the strings way to hard. This also creates tension and can at times stop the string from resonating properly.
I learned that I did this from a local fiddle player who plays so fast, so effortlessly, and so GOOD. He took my violin showed me what I was doing, then he made some lewd reference to “lightness of touch” (lol). Took me almost 6 months to learn how to lightly place my fingers down to get the optimal sound without calluses or squeaks.
2) My left hand’s angle to my violin and where I kept my thumb used to make my hand tense gradually to whereas I would come down on the string to hard. I learned that if you take your relaxed hand and cup your violin, wherever your thumb falls is usually the natural position that it WANTS to be in to play comfortably. Try it.

Let me help. I know what your looking for because I was looking for it myself. I have yet to come across an electric fiddle that had the sound I was looking for. If I was in a rock band or wanted special effects or something out of a starwars movie, an electric fiddle would be awesome…but…
If i’m correct, your looking for this (Myers pickup with carpenter clamp)

Its the best pickup I’ve used to date. Place the microphone close to your bridge or take off the cushion and put it directly in your F-hole for a natural effect (and less feedback when big amps are around). This is probably the only pickup I’d recommend right now (and the Countryman XLR or something similar). Works great on a mandolin as well.
