Are you using the medium or heavy tension? The heavy tension ones (orchestra) sound better than the medium tension ones in my opinion.

An update:
I’ve been really getting to know this fiddle. This weekend, i went to guitar center to pickup an XLR cable for my cheapy Presonus mic. Low and behold they had a sale on the “Blue Hummingbird” microphone, so I thought I’d pick one up. I’ve been dying to learn the “Green Fields of Woodford” and “The Strayaway Child”. I’ve learned both, but I’m having trouble giving it that OOMPH, you know?

Wish you were in VA. I’ve been playing the fiddle for about 2 years and though my teacher is amazing (and practices with me often), oft times I find myself wishing I had someone to practice with.
