Casey,
Thanks for publishing the first of Megan’s lessons. She has been one of my favorite fiddlers for many years, plus she teaches in an easy-to-follow manner. I have only gone through her fist lesson on the Nashville Numbering System so far, and I feel like it just doubled my knowledge of music theory😎. I am looking forward to her tune l…[Read more]

Hi Roland. Nice to know Casey uses Prim. About 15 years I talked to Byron Berline and said he used Prim strings for his fiddle. That’s two reputable recommendations for Prim. I have seen where other fiddlers have recommended them, but I have never tried them. Maybe someday…?

Thanks, Casey. I quit relying on sheet music about two years ago. Without it, I find it much easier to learn a tune. I do admit I look at printed noted now and then, but it is not the crutch it used to be (and no, I don’t (can’t) play every note you play). At an oldtime fiddle workshop a few weeks ago, the instructor stated that you really can’t…[Read more]

Good points, Diane. I just did not want to get in to a real lengthy reply, I only wanted to give some idea of what ‘heavy’ could mean. I think the weights you mention fit my above caveat where I wrote, “Typical weights can vary plus or minus 5 grams or more from the above…”. There are no hard, fast numbers for bows. I never intended it to…[Read more]

Roland, this may belong under the “Bow” forum heading, but since bow weight was brought up here, I thought it might be okay to address bow differences in bow weights, heavy vs. light bows.
Diane G is right about the viola needing a heavier bow. It may help some folks to put some numbers with what is considered ‘heavy’ and ‘light’. For bows…[Read more]

Pat Willey replied to the topic A/B Looping and Speed Adjustments- What do you guys think??? in the forum Fiddle Lesson Forum 8 years, 6 months ago
Actually, I just noticed the hot keys display just by entering the +/= key. I don’t have to enter the command key. Several of the hotkeys are not functional for me. I don’t recall this as being available previously.

Casey, that “more granular” adjustment is nothing short of fantastic. Slowly increasing my speed is much easier than the big jump to full speed.
I want to give a big thanks to you, Roland, your software developers, and anyone else who helped you in this effort. I did not even notice any downtime, so I am sure you must have been working while…[Read more]

Yes, great song. I enjoy reading about songs, songwriters and performers. Here is a great (but lengthy) article from Rolling Stone on this song, and the composer, Leonard Cohen:

Ed,
Tommy Peoples does play with lightning speed. The slowdown feature in YouTube might be helpful. I don’t know how long YouTube has had this function, I just sort of stumbled across it a few months ago (maybe it has always been there, and I am the last to know about it). You can access it by clicking the gear wheel at the bottom of the…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply, Roland. Don’t bother wth the private message I sent you. All is well now.
I have solved my video stuttering problem. It does lie in the Apple TV box, as I suspected. I never had put an Ethernet cord from my router into the Apple TV box. It always worked well without it before this, but the new functions may require…[Read more]

Casey,
I can’t thank you enough for doing this enhancement. I have had great experience with it, and it is going to put more pleasure in my learning.
My favorite way to practice is to use my Apple TV interface (model A1469 3rd generation) and stream it to my television screen (no ugly wires). On my TV It is more like an in-person lesson,…[Read more]
