Sounds like the same Baggs bridge pickup, Louis.
Another newer Baggs preamp many professional accoustic guitar/mando/fiddle/etc. players are using is the VoicePrint DI. From what I gather, you record yourself playing on an iphone app, and the device emulates your specific accoustic sound once you plug in. I like the idea, but from what I can…[Read more]

Oh that makes more sense now, Antonvon. Great idea. I believe the hot keys you would want to map would be “I” for setting the in point, “O” for setting the out point, and the space bar for play…but you might just have to test via keyboard. Best of luck!

I’ve never tried mic ing the output of a PA amplifier;
Altho I haven’t checked the output signal level of the LR Baggs Venue, I think of it as a a ‘pre-amp’ in that it has a signal volume control with it’s own power source (it uses a 9 volt battery or can use a powered wall plug) and so I presume it can boost the output of the piezoelectric…[Read more]

Thanks for sharing your experience, Louis. Very valuable. So you run to the PA, do you ever run to an amp and then mic the amp?
Thanks again,

Hi all
After years of feeling that working with a vocal mic (like an sm-57) was the best choice for me for both vocals and fiddle, because I do both in performance, I recently had a bad experience when the sound guy didn’t provide a good mix during the fiddle breaks. I thought it would help the sound engineers if I provided a quality signal for…[Read more] -

Hi Casey sorry for answering late. I got myself a pageflip dragonfly, it’s bluetooth and programable and can do anything, I’ll have to find what are the keyboard shortcuts for going from a to b or rewind 10 seconds etc, I’ll do that with my foot meaning i wont have to stop playing at anytime.
I’ll let you know how it goes, you program it with a pc…[Read more] -

Good advice here, George and Robert.
Fiddle is such a tough instrument to amp. I generally go with a mic, but still occasionally use the piezo/mic setup you describe from the other thread, George. The only thing I’d add to that is when I do choose to do a loud gig and just use the LR Baggs Piezo bridge, I also use a Baggs Venue pre-amp.

MissElaine,
Casey can offer more specifics.
I believe Hanneke Cassel was scheduled to be back into the studio last month, December, to record more material.
Not exactly Irish but Scottish fiddle is close.
Also, based on proximity, Kevin Burke is pretty easy for Casey to access.
Perhaps as challenging as scheduling artists, is arranging…[Read more] -

Hello Are there going to be any new Irish tunes added this year?

Thanks for the response, Casey. I have been a guitar player most of my life which has kept me playing even after the accident. I’ve always wanted to play fiddle. Good suggestions. I was aware of the tilting on the violin with the aid of a shoulder rest. I have mine as far as it will go. I think my stocky build makes my muscular movement a little…[Read more]

I do not know if there are any discussions, however I can offer up a suggestion or two. I can assume you and an amp, or a pa-system and you would like to amplify your violin.
Today this is really easy. You can either mic it, use a pickup or go pickup – wireless. For pickups just do a search on the web and you will find a lot to choose from. As f…[Read more]

CGRAYEVANS,
I can’t help with amplification, I just play harder and don’t stand close to any banjo players.
However, I did find the attached comment from Casey on an old thread, describes his set-up.
Hope this helps,

Hi, Steve.
George has a good point. Having a good shoulder rest which raises the G string side of the instrument is a solid recommendation. I use Wolf Forte Secondo rests.
I’d also recommend doing a bunch of stretching before working on some G/D string exercises. You might also check out my technique tutorial on vibrato to see how I…[Read more]

Hi, Antonvon.
Are you asking if there’s a bluetooth looping pedal that would work with setting in/out points for the videos hosted on this site? That’s something I’ve never even considered, and I’m not sure what technology is out there that connects to a computer & would control a video player. Or are you asking about a pedal for live…[Read more]

Steve,
Casey will probably chime in here.
My first thought is to get a shoulder rest that will lift the left side (outside) of your instrument.
In the process you would move your instrument to a more vertical position…less horizontal flat.
In this position your wrist and fingers need a touch less arch, tension.
I use an Everest PL 4 that allows f…[Read more] -

Does anyone have recommendations for holding the violin for people that may have limitations. I am having difficulty reaching the G string notes especially playing double stops with the D string. I ‘m sure differences in people’s anatomy , some with longer fingers more stretch ability etc.
For myself I’ve experimented with different ways that…[Read more]
