sabrina started the topic A (very nice !) "Glass case of emotion"'s arrangement in the forum Fiddle Lesson Forum 6 years, 10 months ago
Hello,
I found a very cool arrangement of Hanneke’s (most famous ?!) tune : glass case of emotion.
Caroline Dressler (solo), Giulia Haible (cello) and the Boston Pops orchestra played last month their arrangement of the tune : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GuCppLAyWE (the second tune is Kohler’s hornpipe).
They won this year the “Fidelity…[Read more]

Hi Laura! You’re right… strathspeys can be played a lots of different tempos. If I’m playing a strathspey for a Cape Breton step dance, I play the tune on the faster side. For Scottish country dancing, strathspeys are played slower. I often perform them at a tempo somewhere between these two styles! Overall, I play my Cape Breton strathpeys…[Read more]

I love it !! Wonderful duet 😉
I hope you’ll do others duets together in the future and maybe others instructors could also do
some (Kevin/Niall ; Patti/André) …?

Hello! I’ve viewed all of Hanneke’s Scottish videos, and I am confused about how to determine the appropriate tempo for any given Strathspey in the absence of an available recording? I listen to her performances of the Strathspey genre and the musical character and tempo of each seems somewhat unique. I’d like to determine if that is because…[Read more]

Hi, Craig. Sorry for the confusion, sir. I’m referring to Hokum Bowing (I’ve also heard it referred to as the Double Shuffle). There are actually two lessons that might be helpful to you.
I didn’t think about the fact that the lessons are titled using the other term for the technique…I’ll update the descriptions in those lesson pages so…[Read more]

In the middle of the advanced tutorial on Cotton Patch Rag, around the fourteen minute mark, Casey talks about doing the double shuffle in the middle section of Cotton Patch Rag. He says if you don’t know how to do the double shuffle, watch the video on it. I can’t find any video called “double shuffle” so it must be contained in one of the videos…[Read more]
