Casey Willis replied to the topic Ending a tune on a non tonic note in the forum Fiddle Lesson Forum 6 years, 5 months ago
Hi there, Laura.
I ran this by Hanneke this morning, and she literally said that either way is fine – no right or wrong way to do it in her opinion.
I can tell you that occasionally in the Texas style & Old-Time styles of fiddling, players will end a tune on the relative minor…e.g. Em out of G.
I’m not sure what the origin of this…[Read more]

Hello, My student and I are puzzling over tunes written in Scottish, Cape Breton, Irish and Old Time styles that appear to end on a note that is not the tonic or mode of the tune. What to make of that? Is there something that is common practice for how to end a tune written this way that is not described in the help sections of these tune…[Read more]

Sounds like a winner, Morris.
We’ll get some guitar tracking going for Andre’s stuff and see if we can’t round out his lesson offerings on the site. We have a couple of lessons from Kevin and Hanneke in front of his, but agreed.
Cheers!

Hi RickM, thanks for the tip. Hopefully this will help folks having these playing issues. I know it can seem desperate when nothing works. If any of you try this, let us know how it works for you. Thanks for the tip. Best, Roland, Forum Moderator.

Sharon (jimshau) I’ve been dealing with the same issue with both hands for a couple of years. It can be debilitating for sure.
Something you may not have tried yet is kinetic tape. The stuff that you’ll see athletes wearing these days that looks like a strip of bandage or something. I know there are lots of opinions about it being junk science,…[Read more]

Thanks for the input, Shawn. I’ll take a look at those lessons and see about bumping them up the list for guitar tracking/prioritisation. Andre really is something else. Truly a musical genius.
Excited to bring these (and many more tunes from other instructors) to the site, sooner rather than later.

Seriously, anything from André. He’s a monster with the fiddle and brings so much energy. But maybe these prioritized: Galope De La Malbaie, Gigue De Terrebonne, Le Batteux, Le Talencourt. Thank you!! -S

Hi, Shawn.
Thanks for joining up…and agreed that the content is targeted towards folks who already know the basics of fiddling.
Under normal circumstances, you could expect 2-4 new lessons per month to be published. That said, I am unfortunately away from the production side of things for the next 6-8 weeks. We may be tackling a website…[Read more]

PS, I meant Newbie to this site, not into fiddling. Looking back, I would think most of the material here is pretty intermediate to advanced to a complete new fiddler.

Hello Everyone,
Just joined this wonderful site and I’m already diving into the tunes, specifically Andre and Hanneke.
This may be a dumb question, but how often are new lessons posted? One a month? One every other month? or?
I read in a previous post that you could vote for which lesson would be published before the others, but was wondering…[Read more]
