Roger,
Good questions. The help you are looking for is here on the site.
First, I try to spend time everyday playing standards in various keys.
For example, Rolling In My Sweet Baby’s Arms, I work on playing it in popular keys A, D, G, C but also add B, Bflat and E.
After you play tunes in the “common keys” a few times you’ll realize you can tra…[Read more] -

I went to a bluegrass jam session the other day. We played all of the standards, tunes and vocals. There were a couple of good singers that like singing in B major. I found I was woefully lacking trying to take a break and provide backup licks. Decided that it would be good to take some time and learn scales in B major. Realized there are…[Read more]

I’ve listen to several YouTube versions of Brilliancy and I’m sorta confused by them. There is, of course, the Eck Robertson’s version but there seems to be a different version by Howdy Forrester ( and also Sam Bush on mandolin) which differs from Eck Robertson. Can anyone on the forum address the differences or history, because the melodies a…[Read more]

There’s a Chrome Extension called “Transpose” that supports live transposition, looping, and tempo customization for any HTML browser. Highly recommended!

Hi, I just stumbled on this and thought I’d send a little update.
I was diagnosed in January 2023 with Multiple Myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow. It was discovered when I fell and broke my right (bowing) arm.
I had the fracture repaired with plates and screws, received five radiation treatments, had four months of chemo, and a stem cell t…[Read more]

Hi, Elaine. Kevin already recorded a lesson for that tune. I’ll make sure it’s the next one we produce from him. Cheers.

Brilliancy is outstanding. I’ve learned and forgotten that tune at least twice. Consider it added to the running request list.

Hi, John.
The most current lessons will always show first when you click on “View All Lessons”. There is currently one lesson out to Megan for review, and we should have a few new from Kevin soon as well. All the best.

Hi. I’m fairly new here and searched around a bit, but no luck. Was just wondering if there’s a way to find out when a new tune is available. Thanks!

Philip,
I’m surprised Brilliancy is not already on the site. That’s a great tune with lots of versions.
I’m most familiar with Eck Robertson’s version. He takes a pass through Bill Cheetham, and Drunken Billy Goat in his medley.
I’ll pass your request onto Casey.
Thanks

I would like to challenge Casey to add Brilliancy to his repertoire of online videos. Byron Berline played this but I think it is a part of a Texas medley.

Geroge, thanx for the quick response. I was watching Megan’s Pentatonic scale lesson when you’re reply came. Yes, I have also played tunes in multiple keys as exercises. Excellent advise. It’s a good work out, that’s for sure. Are you familiar with other fiddle tunes in the key of B?
