I did enjoy especially when it was over. 😀
I’ve been giving thought to trying again after your encouragement. I very much enjoyed meeting the other fiddlers and preparing gave me a goal to work towards.
When I saw that you had responded to my forum post, for a fleeting moment I was worried you might have bern looking for royalties for playing…[Read more]

Hi, Richfiddle. I see George has already mentioned the Pageflip. Thx, George!
That thread is here if you want more details (Antonvon).
I’ll look into the Vidami but am hesitant to add another layer of tech at this point.

Well done, Roger! That’s quite the tune to tackle, especially at a contest. I hope you keep competing if you enjoyed the experience, sir.

Thanks for the reply. Vidami does work with Youtube and your content there but as an annual member of your site most of the actual lessons are not on Youtube. When I purchased the pedal they supplied a list of sites that are compatable with their pedal. It appears there is some kind of agreement with those sites that want compatability…[Read more]

Richfiddle,
Thanks for your question. I have not tested a Vidami Blue control pedal. However, company info and independent reviews show it works great with YouTube videos. As you are probably aware, edited versions of fiddlevideo.com content are plentiful on YouTube. In fact, YouTube is one of the most common paths to fiddlevideo. There is…[Read more] -

I am so glad you did this. It is a difficult experience to play in front of an audience. But I think everybody needs to do it once. Winning is great, but the experience is very good for the growth in playing.

Well George, I was even happy with the youth group whom some played circles around me. That’s great news for our chosen passion.

Roger,
You’re my hero! Excellent news on the contest and congratulations on the top 5 finish.
I have been torturing myself with regards to fiddle contests the last couple of years.
I keep making excuses as to why I can’t/don’t enter one. We even have age handicapped contest I could pursue. But you had the courage to jump in there! That’…[Read more]

I entered the Coastal Carolina Fiddle Contest on Sunday. The very first contest for me. I thought I should do so as a right of passage. Rules were simple; 2 tunes of choice, each 3 mins or under, no sheet music. I chose Blue River Waltz & Casey’s ‘ Twisted Rag’ in Bb.
The fiddlin went fast. A very quick 6 mins. I’m glad I did it. I’m also…[Read more]

I just listened to this. Enjoyed immensley. After watching & listening, I’m considering selling my D28, getting an F hole Gibson and going back to guitar and trying to play like Peter. Wouldn’t have to worry about intonation anymore.
Only kidding… I love playing the fiddle. Very nicely done, Casey & Peter.

Hi George,
Learning one tune at a time sounds like a great plan for me too – i’m flittering around like a butterfly with tunes… i’m so new to learning and finding the technique lessons the bees knees!

Swannae,
Welcome to the site. Tons of great info and great teachers. I find myself focusing in one area for a time. After I’ve learned a tune or technique I go out and explore other areas and I’m blown away at the amount of content here.
Also, cool that people from around the world are here.
Best wishes,
George -

Tim,
Fortunately for you, Kevin Burke is a favorite here on the site.
It’s always been hard for me to wrap my head around the fact he lives in Portland Oregon.
I’ve been able to see him a bunch of times. He’s a gentle soul.
