Is there a way to slow down the guitar accompaniment part as there is on the performance style screen?

Hi, Joe. Downbow on downbeat a good baseline rule, one which should absolutely be broken depending on phrasing. Also, depending on the style played, some rules don’t apply. Take a look at Kevin’s lessons, for instance, and you’ll notice that he often favors upbows on downbeats.
You can see opinions from our various instructors here: Fiddle…[Read more]

Hi, Paul.
A general rule of thumb would be to position the bridge between the notches on each F-hole and then adjust towards/away from the fingerboard to suit your ear. That said, I’d recommend having your instrument set up by a luthier who works on a lot of fiddles/violins…they are worth the $, in my opionion. Best of luck!

Hi, my old bridge snapped in two on my fiddle, I bought a replacement and shaved it down to the exact size of the old one except its a bit thicker. Now i’m replacing it is there a sweet spot it needs to go on and does it have to be at 90 degrees to the fiddle?
Thanks in advance for tips -

What are the important points to remember for a bow line? I am beginning to stray from some of the bowings of songs that I learned and then have not played in a while. Sometimes slurring instead of separate bows if it helps with speed or makes more sense to me. Also as I attempt to change an arrangement into a shuffle pattern instead, it would…[Read more]

Thank you Casey. That makes sense. I started learning multiple versions of songs that I already know like Blackberry Blossom and I think I am beginning to understand what you mean. Each arrangement is a little different and gives me ideas I can use on other songs.

Hi again, Mark.
Peter and I spent the past weekend in the studio and recorded a bunch more backup tracks. I made sure we cut the three tunes you listed. Crying Waltz is almost ready for release, and then the next three tunes from Megan will be those you asked for…stay tuned!

Hi, Joe.
I’d say that what you’re after is something that will become innate/easier the more tunes you work through. The more you go through the process of learning a basic version of the tune and then adding in the triplets, ornamentations, double stops, variations, etc. that are included in the advanced lessons, the easier it will be to do…[Read more]

Are there any lessons on how to take a basic melody and turn it into a fiddle arrangement? For example, I watched the Blackberry Blossom lesson and noticed that Casey is not following the exact melody in the basic arrangement. It got me wondering if there are any lessons that show how we would take the exact melody and what things go into making…[Read more]

I’m a seventy nine year old man challenging my brain to keep learning new things by taking the Gypsy Waltz lessons from Megan Channing Chowning. I’m not real comfortable with the computer but my fiddle is sounding better than ever with her lessons. Friends are amazed at my improved playing.
