The AB button gives you 2 markers to place at the start and finish of your loop.

How does one take a section of a tune and loop it so as to practise it until he/she knows it. What settings should I use?

I am a beginning fiddle player.=, and I love bluegrass music. I’m trying to learn Tennessee Waltz and Maiden’s prayer. I’m O.K. with the first part, but the double stops are hard right now.

After a year of watching and listing to Gardenia Waltz, I am going through and learning it! What a fun song! Gardenia Waltz is definitely the most involved song I think I have tried to learn on the site just next to Carnival waltz. It has such a treasure trove of tension and releases moments that are a joy to slow down and learn. It is very fun to…[Read more]

Hello
I would like to ask if Kevin Burke could please do a technique video on his bowing pattern specifically about his string crossing like in the A part after the treble of the tune Cooley’s? I know that particular technique is very common in Irish music but I don’t know when to use it.
Thank you -

I would like to hear more tunes from the Boston Scottish repertoire both the newer popular tunes (e.g Stargazers) typically played plus some good old solid classics not readily found elsewhere online. Thanks for posting some of your originals. I really love Scandalous, Leila’s Birthday, Waiting for the Dawn, etc. Love Gordon Duncan tunes as well!

This is great news. I love her stuff.
Anything that is in the Scottish and Cape Breton must have lists plus a few instructor choice to mix things up.

Is there any chance of teaching the fiddle break in that Bill Monroe classic Rawhide. Its such a fantastic tune.
I need a little help with it.
Thanks so much -

Hi Shannon!
Your story is not all unusual at all. A lot and I would say most who played in school bands, community orchestra, or even played in a garage band move on. When you are young your interests change often. You are eager to experience life and at some point you have to make a decision, family or your musical career.

Thank you for sharing! You have such a great story! This helps remind me to keep faith in the process and remember I still have many years ahead of me (I’m 36). I do have dreams of one day playing with others, though I’m not sure what form that will take. Anything is better than playing shut alone in my closet while my kids sleep at night 😉

I’m not sure whether this is a success story, but here at least is someone else who can relate to your experience. Perhaps it depends on what you mean by “later in life”… I play Irish music. Since my teens, it was on the mandolin (taken up more by accident than intent). I got to my late forties and finally started going to sessions. The feeling…[Read more]
