OK. I recorded that way back 25 years ago…I’ll have to work you up a good version. That’s a good, driving Texas-style tune.
I’m currently prioritizing editing 16 additional Kevin Burke lessons. I also recently recorded a lesson for Whiskey Before Breakfast, so I’ll edit that and get it on the site…but after all that, I’ll record Say Old…[Read more]

Well, I see that it did not get on there. The name of the tune is “Say old Man can you play the fiddle”
Guess I should check my post closer.
Thanks, also I’m starting to work through the advanced lessons for several of the tunes. There is a real quality to the way you have arranged the tunes and the lessons are great. You got some chops man.

Thank you for the welcome Casey, actually I have been this evening working on the tune Jerusalem Ridge, Im taking a section at a time, I like this tune a lot, but I think the last part is going to take a lot of practice. I’m going to try to track my own progress by using my webcam. I think that will be fun if I do it each week, so I can actually…[Read more]

Hi, Gail, and welcome! Sorry to hear of your losses, but happy you stumbled on our site as a resource.
Pick a few good tunes and dive into lessons. Fiddle is a really tough instrument, so don’t get discouraged. It takes a bunch of practice and more importantly TIME for it all to click.
I’ll be excited to hear of your progress…keep us posted!

Hi, my name is Gail, I needed something to focus on after the death of my husband and my daughter. First challenge was to learn to read the notes. I have been trying to teach myself thru books with cds in them. I really enjoy playing, and really want to improve and learn some of the techniques that just really make a tune sound better, and…[Read more]

Hi Ron, and thanks for the kind words, sir. Which song are you hoping I’ll teach? Maybe I’m not seeing a link since I’m checking this on a phone….
Looking forward to hearing back. Thanks for your loyalty to the site, by the way. I’m glad to hear you are finding value and improving your playing!!

This is one that I’m sure a lot of folks would like to see you teach Casey. I know I would. It’s a great tune.
This is my second year on the site and the better I get the more I can appreciate just how talented all of you are.
Thanks for all the great lessons. Keep-em coming.
Happy Fiddling.

Sounds like a winner, #Burkerules….I’ll add it to the list we have going for the next time he’s in studio. I’m also currently editing 16 more lesson modules Kevin recorded in his last session, so stay tuned for those!!!

I would love to have Mr. Burke add Dinney Delaney’s to his lessons. He brings a nice flare to it.

Another place to find bows is in 2nd hand stores in small rural towns. Most folks are looking for a cheap fiddle and lots of times there are old wooden bows from the late 1800’s to the present inside the beat up cases. A good bowman can tell you if its worth it to have it re haired. Have fun Looking!

We do have a flea market close by. Maybe I will check it out. We’ve been meaning to give it a visit anyway.

Casey Willis replied to the topic Shoulder Rest in the forum Fiddle Setup and Repair 9 years, 7 months ago
Hi again, Scott. So one benefit I have noticed from using a shoulder rest is that my violin resonates much more richly since I’m not dampening the vibrations of the back plate. My box feels more alive when using a rest. And that’s coming from a player who chose not to use one for several years.
As far as uploading a profile pic, we currently…[Read more]

For a quick set up out side the repair shop, goes as fallows. The distance from the start of the nut at the finger board to the middle of the bridge needs to be 355mm. From the middle of the bridge to the string rest point on the tail piece is 55mm to get the maximum vibration and sound out of your violin. As for the sound post it is very…[Read more]

Hello every one, I currently do not use a shoulder rest, I bought a cheep violin and started teaching my self how to play. Later I found out about shoulder rest and bought one I couldn’t get used to it, but maybe I didn’t give it a chance. What are the benefits of a shoulders rest beside a straight neck? And how do I put a picture in my…[Read more]
