George Bretz replied to the topic foot pedal (pageflip brand for example) for looping video in the forum Fiddle Lesson Forum 1 year, 4 months ago
Antonvon,
Maybe, others can chime in. I just set up the a-b loop on the video by hand, learn what I’m after and then abandon the lessons and move onto playing with the guitar tracks that are included with the lessons. I try to leave the lessons as quickly as possible.
Sometimes I record my own guitar tracks with a Ditto foot switch looper. -

Maybe a possible solution would be to pan the backing track into one channel and the performance into the other channel. (Left & Right channels). Then if someone didn’t want the backing track, pan left or right to hear just the performance.

hello i would like to know which bluetooth foot pedal you recommend to a-b loop videos – i was thinking of firefly or dragonfly pedal by pageflip but there are hundreds of other brands.
it would be so convenient to loop with your feet, not your hands!
thanks a lot -

I’ll ask him. A couple lessons currently out for his review.

Can anyone identify what chin rest Kevin uses? I tried one like that a long time ago and it was perfect but I can’t find it anywhere – except on Kevin’s fiddle!
all info most most welcome! -

Joseph,
If the suggestions Casey offered don’t work, you may want to consult an orthopedic physician that specializes in hands/forearms.
I had a similar issue with my left hand that resulted in a very painful wrist. Made playing guitar or banjo very painful.
After a couple of steroid injections and a couple of months rest the pain resolved. C…[Read more] -

Hi, Joseph. It may be a pressure thing. You shouldn’t be gripping too hard – perhaps that’s the root cause? Also, make sure there is a little space between the bottom of the neck and the joint between your thumb and first finger.
Finally, I’d recommend doing 3+ minutes of hand stretching before and after you play…that could help, sir.

I play acoustic guitar and am learning the fiddle (2 years into it). I notice that my thumb joint by the rist is unusually sore at times. Any suggestions to remedy this is appreciated. Perhaps I am not supporting the violin with my left hand or applying too much thumb pressure with my grip?

I FOUND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING MY LEFT THUMB MUSCLE TO HURT!!!!
“You must keep your thumb bent!!!!” I was playing with my thumb joint locked into the straight position and it was creating too much stress on the muscle.”KEEP YOUR THUMB BENT.
A physician friend of mine plays the mandolin an helped me identify the problem.

Hi, Kitegal/George.
George – you hit the nail on the head…it’s been a busy summer, coupled with backup scheduling issues. I do very much look forward to getting things back to production speed, hopefully soon. I know you’re not alone in wanting to see new tunes published…

Thank you very much George! Very much appreciate your response and help. I am very empathetic to the fact that running a site like this is a very ambitious project and needs lots of work and attention. I can’t even imagine how Casey can juggle this with touring and being a professional musician.
The site here is a real gem, a great resource for…[Read more] -

Kitegal,
Casey asked me to help with forum moderation, as he is pretty busy during “festival season”. I will make sure your question gets to him.
At a workshop a couple of months ago he shared that he had quit a bit of content in production.
He mentioned that a significant challenge was getting the guitar player for his tracks into the studio as…[Read more] -

Hi @Casey,
Hopefully you are doing well. It seems a bit worrisome that there have been no new lessons been published since quite a while. A long time ago you had mentioned that there were still many lessons you have in reserve but need to process them first. For example some gems from Kevin Burke. But nothing had been added since.
It would be…[Read more]

In the last month I’ve had the good fortune of hearing Casey sit in with a couple of Bluegrass bands at a couple of Bluegrass festivals here in the Pacific Northwest.
He has some serious Bluegrass improvisation talent. We are in good hands here with Casey at the helm. But we could use some improve demonstration, just sayin’.
Catch him if you can. - Load More
